Finally fulfilling a long time NYC to-do: the Chelsea Piers driving range.

Chelsea Piers is a massive sports complex on the West Side Highway that stretches from something like 18^th to 23^rd street and includes indoor and outdoor skating rinks, indoor and outdoor soccer fields, a gymnastics complex, putt-putt, basketball courts, batting cages, couple restaurants, a bowling alley and of interest today a three story driving range that extends the length of a pier allowing you to tee up and launch balls 200 yards into the Hudson River (well TO the Hudson River. The range is all netted in.)

Still it’s pretty sweet and with a new (albeit very brief) lease on life after this final and with Trope off for the week it was an unmissable opportunity. So he and Brett got us a spot on the top floor and hit some balls.

By some I mean 300. Which was a bet excessive honestly as Brett got blisters and my fingers began to feel like that of an 80 year old arthritic man. Trope on the other hand needed that many to stop drilling balls into the side netting, the canvas flaps protecting each tee from wayward duffers like him and even hitting one backwards somehow. That last was pretty impressive But improve he did. He might actually be ready to hit real links pretty soon.

Rounded that off with a couple drinks at West Side Tavern and a ride on the F home route of the city’s best angry bums.
